Tuesday, June 26, 2018 - 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Nancy Goslee Power and Anna Hoffman, Guest Speakers

Please join us as we explore examples of classical California gardens past and present that have been designed to survive in the Mediterranean climate of California.  We will look at several examples of historical gardens that endure and thrive in different parts of the state, as well as several recent projects that take into account principles of water conservation in plant selection.

Nancy Goslee Power is a garden designer based in Santa Monica, California. Her firm, Nancy Goslee Power & Associates has built countless gardens both private and public in California, the East Coast, Australia and Europe. Her acclaimed garden for the Norton Simon Sculpture garden and the Beverly-Canon Garden in Beverly Hills are her most well known local public gardens. She was the winner of the first Henry F. DuPont Award for Garden Design, the Giant’s of Design Award from House Beautiful Magazine and she has been a recipient of the prestigious Resident Award of the American Academy in Rome. Her first book "The Gardens of California," published in 1995 has become a classic in its  field, and in 2009  Stewart, Tabori and Chang,  published a monograph of her work, "The Power of Gardens." The Norton Simon’s  book  "A Living Work of Art" on the Sculpture Garden, published in 2015 has a lengthy essay on the garden by her.

During her career landscape architect Anna Hoffman has worked on presidential homes, royal palaces, private islands, and residential compounds. Inspired by her travels, she has taken pilgrimages across five continents. Born and raised in California, she has worked on projects in Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Cyprus, Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar, India, China, Brazil, the Caribbean, Mauritius, Mexico and Hawaii. She is intimately familiar with the coastal, desert, semi-tropical and Mediterranean plant palettes.  Her office is in West Hollywood, California.
