This Art Deco landmark was built in 1929, designed by architects John and Donald Parkinson with interiors by early Modernist designer Jock Peters.
It served as a high-end department store until 1994, when Southwestern Law School fully restored the property and brought it new purpose, adapting it to function as part of their campus. This fully guided tour of spaces rarely open to the public includes glimpses into noteworthy rooms like the marble-walled perfume hall, luxurious Fine Apparel French Rooms, Southwestern-influenced Salle Moderne, and the chinoiserie Coco Chanel Room.
Tour guide Sara Halpert is the inaugural Archivist for the Southwestern Law School Library’s collection of materials documenting the history of the school, as well as those related to the historic Bullocks Wilshire building, now used as the Leigh H. Taylor Law Library. She previously spent six years as the Museum Manager at The International Printing Museum in Carson, CA, one of the largest collections of historic printing and book arts equipment in the world.
