Following two sold out tours of the historic Judson Studios stained glass studio in 2022, we are excited to peek behind the doors of Judsons’ fusing studio. Opened in 2016, this bright and airy 5,000-square-foot space houses 6 kilns, alongside a gallery showcasing Judson’s collaborations with world-renowned artists.
Judson Studios is a fine arts studio specializing in stained glass and kiln-formed glass. They have three full-service fabrication facilities located in Northeast Los Angeles. Since the founding of the company in 1897, the studio has been involved with the design, fabrication, and installation of hundreds of original glass and mosaic projects and historic restoration projects.
Judson Studios designs and builds glass artworks to create light, life, energy, and inspiration in the world. While respecting tradition, they embrace technology and design, and build for the future. Kiln-formed glass unifies layers of glass through heat. Consisting of fusing, slumping, and low relief; kiln-formed glass is used to achieve brilliant effects in glass that were not previously possible in traditional stained glass. Fused glass can either be leaded or produced in a single 8-foot by 4-foot panel. Judson works directly with their clients to understand specific needs in design, fabrication, and installation. Their glass is sourced from the Bullseye Glass Co. factory in Portland, Oregon, and all steps of production take place in their Los Angeles-area facilities. This ensures that Judson Studios kiln-formed and fused glass projects are made entirely in the United States.
