King Gillette Ranch and plein air sketching

Please join us Saturday, June 8th, for a walking tour and plein air sketching at the King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas led by David Rinehart. The King Gillette Ranch, completed in 1929, was designed by renowned Southern California architect Wallace Neff for safety razor mogul King C. Gillette and his wife Alanta. The residence is the culmination of the first decade of Neff’s career and is an exceptional example of the architect’s unique Southern California style of architecture.

The group will meet at and tour the Ranch’s stables building, which is now the visitor center for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The tour will then proceed to the grounds surrounding the main residence. Please note that the residence’s interior is not open to the public, so the tour will be limited to the exterior of the property. Following the tour, which will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, the group will return to the visitor center for a BYO picnic lunch, after which the instructor will guide the group in plein air sketching.
