LA Grown: Landscape Design in Southern California

Please join the ICAA SoCal in a lively and timely conversation on creating beautiful and ecologically sound landscapes in Southern California, held beside UCLA’s Mathias Botanical Garden.

Led by Stephanie Landregan, Director of UCLA Extension’s Landscape Architecture Program, the evening’s conversation will explore working within our unique climate to create lush, water-wise outdoor spaces. Four leaders in the field – David Godshall of Terremoto, Wade Graham of Wade Graham Design, Mary Sager McFadden of Pamela Burton & Company, and Juan Ospina of Hoffman & Ospina – will speak to the creation of spaces that delight the senses and have sustainability at their core. From strategies for erosion control to using water to create cooler temperatures in projects, guests will hear from these experts about their design philosophies, working methods, and lessons learned from experience.

Our conversation will be held at La Kretz Garden Pavilion, adjacent to the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden, which guests may enjoy till its 6pm closing time.

Jenny co-founded Test Plot, an ongoing experiment in stewardship of public landscapes, and has led the Elysian Park Test Plots for 6 years, working closely with community members to restore native ecosystems in the park. Jenny also co-leads the Land & Labor internal working group at Terremoto, which seeks to bring more visibility and equity to landscape labor and maintenance within the profession and greater culture.

Jenny studied Environmental Science and Theory as an undergraduate at the University of Virginia. She taught middle school science for a few years before returning to UVA for a dual master’s in Landscape Architecture and Urban & Environmental Planning.
