Pasadena City Hall (completed in 1927) provides a beautiful setting with its courtyard, dramatic fountain, shaded arcades, and iconic dome. On weekends, City Hall becomes a quiet, meditative space that attracts artists, urban sketchers, and photographers—making it an ideal place to slow down, observe, and draw.

Richard E. Scott is an artist, author, and former architectural illustrator. He teaches painting and drawing at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens and the Norton Simon Museum.
For over 25 years, he has taught courses and workshops at universities including California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, University of California, Los Angeles, ArtCenter College of Design, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also leads private art workshops throughout the United States and Europe.
He is the author of Sketching – from Square One to Trafalgar Square, widely used as a teaching text in universities, colleges, and art schools across the U.S.
