Behind the Scenes Tour of Union Station

Please join the ICAA for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of hidden gems at the iconic Los Angeles Union Station. Completed in 1939, Union Station is the largest railroad passenger terminal in the western United States and is widely regarded as “the last of the great train stations.”

The Station was designed by the father-and-son architect team of John and Donald Parkinson with an innovative blend of Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival and Art Deco architecture now referred to as Mission Moderne. Attendees will visit the Ticket Concourse with its glazed bronze doors and 110-foot-long ticket counter made of American black walnut, the former Fred Harvey Restaurant, designed by Mary Colter, and other architecturally significant spaces not typically accessible to the public.

Union Station was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 101 in 1972 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places and California Register of Historical Resources in 1980.

Dyana Elam will serve as our Union Station guide. Dyana is the Senior Director of Construction on the improvements at Union Station that have taken place since 2013. Dyana has managed over $100M of critical infrastructure upgrades over the 52-acre campus. Union Station is the proud recipient of several awards resulting from Dyana’s successful project completion, including the 2021 California Preservation Foundation Award; the 2019 LA Conservancy Award; BOMA’s Building of the Year in the Historical and Pueblo categories in 2018; and LABJ Silver and Bronze Awards 2013 to 2018.
