Rocky LaFleur Scholarship Recipients

Kyra Bauman and Nicholas Altiere have each been awarded a $5,000 scholarship to attend the ICAA Professional Intensive this January.

Nicholas grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and has always had a passion for creating. After earning his Bachelor’s in Film from the University of Colorado – Boulder Nicholas established his own art studio, and worked as a photographer, traveling around the world. During his travels, his passion for architecture took center stage; he decided to return to school to earn his Master’s in Architecture from the University of Colorado – Denver. Nicholas began with Harrison Design, Santa Barbara in the fall of 2020, and is currently working towards his professional licensure.

Kyra studied art history and linguistics at UC Santa Barbara before earning a Master of Architecture degree from UCLA. She is currently a Job Captain at Tim Barber Architects, a Los Angeles-based studio specializing in traditional and contemporary single-family custom home design with a focus on advocating for and integrating sustainable systems into their projects. Kyra also mentors UCSB students on portfolio preparation for Master of Architecture programs and serves as the Membership Director for the Association for Women in Architecture + Design.

The Rocky LaFleur Memorial Educational Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Rocky LaFleur. Rocky, whom we lost sadly earlier this year, was a Board member, veteran design professional, and an exceptional human being. He mentored countless young design professionals – many of whom continue his work within our Chapter and beyond. Rocky inspired countless young people to pursue careers in design and to advance the ICAA mission.
